Enjoy the creative arts

Every year, hordes of Texans create unique arts, culinary creations, performing arts, and crafts. Their award-winning entries are on display in the Creative Arts Building where you can see their butter carving, cooking demonstrations, and more. Keeping within the theme of the arts, you can also enjoy live music. Head over to the Main Stage to see the headline acts, but don’t forget the other stages in the park where other acts will also be performing. The best thing to do is to take a glimpse of the lineup before you go, and if you know any of the acts, you can plan your day around them. Acts that have performed at the event in previous years include Flo Rida, Kacey Musgraves, La Mafia, and Wilson Phillips. As well as live music, there are numerous other live shows to entertain you at the event. You can watch the Lone Star Stampede horse show, for example, of the children’s area for all-round family entertainment. You’ll see these events all over the park. Just make sure you visit the schedule online before you go. It would be a shame if you missed something because you simply weren’t aware that it was taking place.

Take a look around historic Fair Park

One of the most interesting things to do at the fair is to explore its setting. The fair is held every year at Dallas national historic landmark, Fair Park. Many of its buildings were constructed especially for the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition. That lone event turned the site from fairgrounds into an Art Deco showcase. As you make your way around the fairgrounds, you’ll notice these very distinctive buildings around the park. Close to the entrance, you can see the reflecting pool surrounded by stunning Art Deco buildings. It’s a great opportunity for a souvenir photo.

Don’t forget to eat…and drink

Now that you’ve been given a rundown of the best things to see and do at the fair, it’s time to talk about the food. You can’t visit a fair and not sample its delicious treats. Texas State Fair, as you might imagine, has a reputation for being fried and a bit over the top. You’ll have a choice of Fried Bananas Foster, Fried Cuban Sandwiches, and everything else in between. If it can be fried, it’s a fair bet that someone has attempted to make it for the fair. While the variety of fried food is simply outstanding, you won’t go hungry if you enjoy healthier treats, either.

Visit the family area

If you have children with you, take a walk around the lake or follow the bridge next to the swan boats. There you’ll see a Children’s Area full of child-friendly activities, such as crafts, peewee rodeo, a petting zoo, and shows. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. It’s also a great place to sit and while away the hours by the lake while getting some peace and quiet and spending some time away from the crowds.
